Match Play: Cut to top 15 (based on 60 entries), then bowlers are seeded into a bracket. Single-game elimination matches for those who qualify.

MEMBERSHIP
There is a $10 membership once again for the 2018 Sprummer Sweeper Series, and it can be payable in any of the regions. $5 can be paid in the first event bowled and the other $5 can be paid at event #2 bowled. If you pay the $10 at or before the kickoff event in this region, you will also receive $10 worth of raffle tickets, as we will be raffling off a bowling ball and perhaps other prizes as well. The $10 membership only needs to be paid one time per Sprummer season and qualifies you for points in each region if you decide to bowl in other regions as well.
MID/EASTERN SWEEPER REGION
This is event #4 for the Mid/East Michigan region of the 2018 Sprummer Sweeper Series. Each bowler's top 5 events will count toward their individual points in each region, and the top 4 bowlers in points will automatically cash in each region's rolloff. The top 4 bowlers for each of these regions will also automatically cash in the 2018 Sprummer Sweeper Championship in September.

Over the weekend I participated in this very well-known tournament as a first timer. This tournament has been going on since well before I was even born. The only way I can describe this tournament is with one word; Unique. The format is one I have never seen nor been a part of before. The bowling center has three different bays of eight lanes. For anyone who has bowled in centers like this know how big the difference in bays can be.
Qualifying: 6-games across 6 pairs of lanes.
Semi-Finals: Top 18 bowl 3 more games (based on 72 entries).
Finals: Top 9 bowl 3 more games (based on 72 entries)
Final Standings: 12 game total pinfall determines the winner

Aaron Lorincz Completes Triple Crown at Mayflower Lanes
The Budweiser Michigan Majors Bowling Association’s first Major of the year was held at Mayflower Lanes in Redford March 15-16. One of the MMBA’s youngest stars Aaron Lorincz of Saginaw added his name to the list of Triple Crown winners by defeating Frank Snodgrass of Roseville three games to one at our annual Match Game Championship. Only Gene Stus and Larry Walker have accomplished this feat.
Lonnie Jones of Ann Arbor and Ken Wyatt of Sterling Heights paced the field of 43 bowlers with a six game qualifying score of 1442. The cut score to make the 16 man semi-final match game bracket was a 6-game qualifying score of 1243.
Frank Snodgrass started match play on Saturday afternoon as the 11th seed and eliminated 6th seed Scott Christie 2-1, 191-210, 238-215, 237-209. Snodgrass faced Abed Daher of Dearborn in his first match on Sunday and won 2-0 in a couple of close games, 236-212, 239-231. In the semi-final round Snodgrass defeated Mike Chism of Farmington Hills 2-0, 239-180, 196-165 to move into the championship match.
Aaron Lorincz started match play as the 4th seed and defeated Terry Dockery of Fraser 2-1 in a close match 175-166, 194-211, 244-206. The first match on Sunday Lorincz matched up against Todd Sim of Belle River, Canada. This match couldn’t have been any closer. Lorincz won the first game 236-214 and Sim won game two 214-205. The deciding game came down to the 10th frame. Sim needed a double to win the game and got the first strike, however, came up light on the second shot leaving a 2 pin. With the spare conversion both players ended up tied 254-254. Sim started the 9th & 10th frame roll-off leaving the 3-6 spare and failed to convert. Lorincz stepped up and threw a strike in his 9th frame and 10th to shut the door on Sim 47-39. Lorincz lined up nicely in his semi-final match against Corey Miller of Grand Blanc. Lorincz started with the front 8 in game one to win 259-215, then started with the front 8 in game 2 to win easily 279-233.
The championship match is a best 3 out of 5 games and looked like it would be a shootout as Snodgrass captured game 1 280-247. In game two the scores came down for both players as the lanes transitioned with Lorincz grinding out a 214-182 victory to even the match at a game a piece. Lorincz pounded the pocket in game three and was rewarded with a 249-224 win taking a 2-1 lead. In game 4 Lorincz again was in the pocket in game four but couldn’t put strikes together. In the 10th frame Lorincz needed a mark to shut door and missed a 10 pin to open the door for Snodgrass. Snodgrass needed a double in the 10th but came up high on his first ending his day with another 2nd place finish - Snodgrass finished 2nd last month at Sterling Lanes. For Lorincz, this was not only his 5th MMBA title in his young career but also completed the triple crown which includes wins at the Match Game, Championship, and Tournament of Champions. Lorincz received the first place check of $1,000 along with a beautiful trophy provided by Pro Am Bowling and Trophy. Snodgrass received a check for $500 for his 2nd place finish.

Sara Litteral of Redford won the Metro Detroit USBC Association (MDUSBC) Rip 10 Entertainment Women’s Series event on Sunday with a 207-186 triumph over Michelle Keirns of Lansing at Shelby Lanes in Utica. Litteral took home the top prize of $500, while Keirns settled for $250.
Litteral qualified eighth in the field of 30, with a four-game total of 906. Her consistent qualifying total included a high game of 245. In match play she beat Sarah Dorow of Midland 225-208 and Lisa Bishop of Garden City 247-234 en route to the championship match.
Keirns qualified eighth with 828. Her victories in match play included wins over Cassondra Mize of Toledo 202-195, top qualifier Sandra Schultz of Macomb 277-174 and Aleksandra (Sasha) Hudak of Northville 223-178 on her way to the final match.
Schultz dominated the qualifying with 987 on consistent games of 249, 257, 239 and 242.
Keirns moved into fifth place in the season long cup list with 468 points. Lisa Bishop continues to lead the list with 520 points.

LISA BISHOP WINS WOMEN’S SERIES EVENT AT SHELBY LANES
Lisa Bishop of Belleville won her second Metro Detroit USBC Association (MDUSBC) Rip 10 Entertainment Women’s Series event on Sunday with a 229-177 triumph over Julie Oczepek of Reese at Shelby Lanes in Utica. Bishop took home the top prize of $500, while Oczepek settled for $250.
Bishop qualified fourth in the field of 26, with a four-game total of 899. Her consistent qualifying total included a high game of 237. In match play she beat Sandra Schultz of Macomb 224-202 and Michelle Ewald of Clinton Township 216-213 en route to the championship match.
Oczepek qualified sixth with 876. Her victories in match play included wins over Robin Orlikowski of Grand Rapids 248-227 and Tanisha Burris of Lansing 236-222 on her way to the final match.
The win by Bishop propelled her into first place in the season long cup list with 423 points. She is followed by Oczepek, who has 411.

Ken Wyatt Captures his 11th MMBA Title at Thunderbowl Lanes
The Budweiser Michigan Majors Bowling Association’s opened its 47 th year of tournament action at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park on January 11 th . Hall of
Famer and Executive Director Ken Wyatt of Sterling Heights started off his 30th year of MMBA competition in style winning his 11 th title, defeating Craig Nidiffer
of Trenton 238-209. Wyatt received a check for $1,000 along with the championship trophy while Nidiffer settled for 2 nd place and received a check for $500.
Wyatt paced the field of 52 bowlers with a six game qualifying round of 1467. The cut score to make the 14 man semi-final round was 1273. This month’s
tournament featured Kegel’s Broadway lane condition, part of Kegel’s Challenge series. This lane pattern proved to be a good test for all of the players.
The stepladder finals began with fifth seed Justin Neiman of Warren facing fourth seed Mike Bradfield of Lansing. Bradfield, bowling in only his 2 nd MMBA
tournament, showed no signs of being nervous as he defeated Neiman in a tight match 226-225. Neiman had a chance to close out Bradfield with three strikes in
the 10 th but left a pocket 7-10 on his second ball to finish with 225. Bradfield needed to fill at least 19 pins to close out the match and did just that with a strike
on his first shot in the 10 th and filling 9 on his next two shots. Neiman received a check for $300 with his 5 th place finish.
Bradfield then met fellow Lansing native Robert Mireles. Mireles struggled to find the pocket, opening with splits in the 3 rd and 5 th frames while Bradfield was
solid the whole game defeating Mireles 227-155. Mireles, owner of 3 MMBA titles, received $350 for his 4 th place finish.
Next up for Bradfield was qualifying leader Ken Wyatt. This was a great match as both players were in the pocket all game long. Wyatt used a six bagger in frames
5 through 10 while Bradfield failed to strike on the left lane twice down the stretch, losing 249-237. Bradfield received a check for $400 for his efforts.
Wyatt then met 2011 Bowler of the Year Craig Nidiffer. Nidiffer, already with 8 MMBA titles in his young career, started the match slowly, failing to strike until
the 5 th frame. Wyatt started the match with a spare and three strikes, taking an early 38 pin lead. Nidiffer threw strikes in frames 5 -7, however failed to strike in
the 8 th and 9 th frames leaving the door open for Wyatt. Wyatt closed the door with a three bagger in frames 6-8 to go on and win 238-209.
